Of course the car itself was lame like most GM products of the time, but still.

Somewhat related - what do you think was the worst 90s car?

Probably the W140 Mercedes S-class. One of the worst cars ever made, and once Lexus came out they panicked so bad so they tried to rush a bunch of extra features and tech shit, but of course none of it ever worked since they had no time for R&D, accelerating the problems and making things much worse.

So much to choose from....(I'm leaving my choices between the big 3, just because I have more knowledge and first hand experience of their crap)
Thinking of GM, the Cavalier/Sunfire were truly bad. I kind of liked any car with the 3.8.
Ford had some pretty bad stuff as well. I don't think there are any Tempos left from the 90's ...
Chrysler, I'm not sure what they were thinking. They really led in design in the late 90's but quality was non existent.

Which is a bummer because the W126 wasn't a bad car.
What do you think was the worst affordable car?
It's hard for me to pick from the affordable cars because there were so many ugly and crappy cars in the 90s.

I had good luck with a Cavalier. It wasn't inspiring, but it was actually pretty reliable. Of course there wasn't much to break either.

Did you experience Cavaliers with reliability issues? From what I heard they were good cars but GM never invested in evolving the car so it got really long in the tooth towards the end of its run.
Man those early 90s Tempos were pretty bad! I haven't seen one in ages.
It is a bummer that Chrysler had some neat designs but poor reliability. Their whole cab forward design was cool for affordable sedans. I guess they took that idea from owning Lambo, haha
Imagine if the Big 3 had invested in improving product design and reliability sooner than they did. Hyundai/Kia might never have become a success here. Some of the recent affordable American cars are really good. People are seeing that, but there is just so much to choose from these days.

Define what you mean by reliable lol.. I had some experience with a Sunfire. I guess it ran most of the time, but that's not saying a lot. Just crappy engineering. Some of what GM put out was actually alright, I liked the H-bodies of the era.
Tempos were just terrible. Someone in my family always had one for some reason. I don't think any of them made it to more than 80k miles.
I could go on about the 90's automotive industry. A lot of fail.

Yeah most of the time is not reliable! Especially if the car is being maintained properly.
New cars are so good these days!

Yes, the car was lame. But as it was my inherited first car that I drove through high school and college, I love seeing them.
And it sure was reliable for the way I treated it, knowing nothing about cars and regularly missing oil changes and the like haha. Of course because of that, it eventually died on me
